Description
Inaugurated on August 5, 1953, the pool complex was designed by Isaías Cardoso, next to the Figueira da F5voz Grande Hotel.
Originally called Piscina-Mar, this emblematic building marked the determination and tourist investment of the 1950’s and is still today one of the ex-libris of the city.
Augusto Alves da Silva was the one who carried out the initiative of construction of the Swimming pool, directed by José Redondo.
During its “golden” years, many were the social events and sporting events of great importance that took place at Piscina-Mar, namely major national and international competitions. The Portuguese Swimming Championships were held there for several years, and there was also an international event: two days of the Luso-Brazilian Games, including water polo competitions.
The Hotel and the Pool effectively mark a new architectural and urbanistic attitude in the city and are therefore recognized with Public Interest. The pool has a cafeteria and restaurant service (concessionary), changing rooms, sun loungers and parasols.
Property classified as Public Interest – Decree No. 5/2002, of February 19.
