Data from Statistics Portugal (INE) reveals growth in Portugal’s tourist accommodation sector
According to INE, 13.6 million overnight stays and 5.8 million guests were recorded in the first quarter of 2026, representing year-on-year growth of 1.3% and 1.5%, respectively, according to data released by the institute.
International markets continued to dominate national tourism activity, accounting for 68% of total overnight stays. Overnight stays by non-residents increased by 1.4% to 9.2 million, while those by residents grew by 1.2%, totaling 4.3 million.
Regarding the main source markets, the United Kingdom maintained its leadership, accounting for 15.6% of non-resident overnight stays. Germany grew by 5% and the United States increased by 5.1%. Among the main markets, Canada stood out once again, with an increase of 10.6%.
